Lancaster Village
LifeArk and Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission
In partnership with Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission (HOV), a nonprofit organization serving the homeless population across the San Fernando Valley, and the City of Lancaster, LifeArk and HOV are proposing a 364 bed shelter for families, focusing on single mothers with children in the city of Lancaster, CA.
HOV LifeArk Village Lancaster will feature LifeArk’s village model, utilizing 7 clusters surrounding a large central courtyard. The clusters include both ADA and family clusters, each with their own mini courtyard with shading, picnic tables and trees.
The main central courtyard includes a sports court, playground, community garden, multi-purpose and administrative centers, and dog run area providing a holistic and inviting shared community space for clients to gather and spend time with their friends and family.
This concept features a painted basketball court inspired by Project Backboard, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “renovate public basketball courts and install large scale works of art on the surface in order to strengthen communities, improve park safety, encourage multi-generational play, and inspire people to think more critically and creatively about their environment.”
When comparing other shelter options, LifeArk presents several key advantages including total building area, increased numbers of bathrooms, and increased square footage per household.
