LifeArk: A Climate Resilient Housing Solution by LifeArk Named a Finalist in the Fast Company 2025 Innovation by Design Awards

September 22, 2025

Out of over 2,000 applications, honorees include projects, products, and services from The New York Times, Jones Knowles Ritchie, Adobe, and others

Los Angeles, California, September 22, 2025 -- LifeArk is proud to announce that it has been named one of three finalists in the Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards for 2025 in the Sustainability and Circular Design category.

Now in its 14th year, the Innovation by Design Awards celebrate the designers and businesses addressing today’s most urgent challenges while anticipating the problems of tomorrow. The program is one of the most prestigious design competitions in the industry, spotlighting work that exemplifies originality, beauty, sustainability, user insight, cultural significance, and measurable business impact.

The 2025 Innovation by Design Awards honor the designers and businesses solving the most crucial problems of today and anticipating the pressing issues of tomorrow… It is one of the most sought-after design awards in the industry. There are 31 categories that capture every facet of design.

A team of editors and experts judge the nearly 2,000 applications, taking into consideration the key ingredients of innovation: functionality, originality, beauty, sustainability, user insight, cultural impact, and business impact. Each winner is chosen after multiple rounds of judging and conversations about a design’s role in the current cultural moment. This monthlong process ensures that every project chosen to receive an Innovation by Design honor is representative of the best work in its respective field.

LifeArk has been named a finalist in Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards in the Sustainability and Circular Design category for its groundbreaking amphibious modular housing system. Built to serve communities on the front lines of climate change, from flood-prone neighborhoods to families facing displacement, LifeArk delivers resilient, rapidly deployable homes that can be assembled on land or float on water. Each module is engineered with 30% post-consumer recycled content, designed to withstand floods, hurricanes, and seismic events, and approved under California and International building codes for widespread use. With its flexible, reconfigurable design, LifeArk offers a scalable model for sustainable housing that evolves with community needs.

“We set out to prove that safe, dignified, and climate-resilient housing isn’t a distant ideal; it’s something we can deliver today, at scale, to those who need it most,” said Charles Wee, CEO and Inventor of LifeArk.

Honorees were selected by a panel of leading designers, business executives from leading organizations, and Fast Company editors.

“The Innovation by Design Awards celebrate bold ideas and work that proves design is a true driver of business and societal progress. This year’s honorees show how creative thinking can unlock new markets, build stronger organizations, and deliver meaningful impact at scale,” said Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company.
